As you may well know by now I am always on the look out for bargains and I hate spending too much money. When we first moved into our flat we had all the furniture we needed provided by the landlord which was ace. As time went on however we decided that we needed to start getting our own furniture because when we eventually move out and get our own place we won’t have any furniture.

When you live life on a budget however and you’re always looking to save money it can be a little difficult to start buying furniture all the time. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has had this problem which is why I wanted to bring you the solution. Before I start I want to point out that this isn’t a quick fix, you can’t just go on the app and find something just like that. It takes time to find the piece that you want and it can be a waiting game at times.

The app I’m talking about is Gumtree of course! I need to point out that before you go on with this post you should probably check out my 4 negatives with Gumtree post so you know what you might come across.

Now that being said, Gumtree is the best place to get free furniture, we have got all of ours from Gumtree and will continue to use it if we need something. You see Gumtree is full of people that just want to shift their clunky furniture that’s just clogging up their home, well that’s perfect if I am looking for it because I have no problem with going to collect the piece and stick it in our flat!

If you aren’t familiar with the app check out my how to use Gumtree post for all you need to know. When it comes to furniture you can either search for the piece that you want and make sure the search function is price ascending so you get the lowest price first or you can follow the steps in my how to post and see everything from the lowest price onwards.

So far I’ve managed to get a cabinet, TV unit, two mirriors, cork boards and a bookshelf. There are a few other bits but I won’t bored you with a giant list because that would be boring. Some areas might have less however, there is normally quite a bit in Bournemouth however when I travel an hour down the road to Weymouth there isn’t a lot to be had. I guess it all depends on timing as well, around Christmas I see a lot more bits on Gumtree because people are buying new stuff and getting rid of the old.

You can always buy furniture for a low price n Gumtree which isn’t a problem if that’s what you want to do. Personally I am in no rush to get new furniture so I check every couple of days to see if what I want is on there and when it is I will just drop the person a message to see if it’s still available.

Let me know if you’ve ever gotten anything off of Gumtree, was it nice or have you any horror stories from the items you have got? I know someone who got a bike and then a visit from the police as the bike was stolen!
