No Spend November – In The Bathroom

No spend November is something that I’ve done for four years now and 2021 is year number 5 so I thought it would be time to come back and talk about my experience and the best ways to complete no spend November!

I understand that everyone loves a good bargain, I’m totally the same. I’m always looking for buy one get one free, 2 for 1 deals and sale shopping is my hobby! However that leads to bulk buying and hoarding!

If you’re buying way too much over the year, you could have gone a little too heavy in the Christmas and January sales or you just buy a new soap every time you go shopping, well no spend November is totally for you!

No spend November is all about using up that excess shower gel, shampoo, soap and bathroom essentials that you’ve been building up all year long. I have a storage unit and one shelf has 12 pump soaps on it!

Start Saving Money

Learning how to save money is a side passion of mine! If I can save money then I will. I probably spend around £20-£40 on toiletries a month which is actually quite a lot! Doing no spend November means I’m saving that money.

Now I’m not saying that if you run out of toilet roll you have to use newspaper because that’s no fun! I’m saying use up them 20 packs of toothpaste, the 16 shower gels you have; make a dent!

You know that you’re going to start buying again in the January sales, we all do! So why not use the stuff up, make sure you check dates if you have toothpaste you can use up the ones that go out of date first! It’s genius.

If you have way too much stuff then consider donating it to a food bank for Christmas, people need smellies as much as they need food and you can spread the Christmas spirit while feeling good that you’ve helped some people out! Only donate what you can, we all want to help but the last thing you want to do is put yourself in a position where you’re needing help.

I know for myself that I have loads of mini shower gels, shampoos and conditioners that I pick up from hotels on my travels. If you’re the same, no spend November is the best time to use them up.

No Spend Challenge

Doing a no spend challenge can be a lot of fun and I guarntee if you love it once, you’re going to want to do it every single year. It’s a great way to save money as well, if you know how much you normally spend in November you can save it away, my money goes into the mortgage fund right now!

That being said if you’re looking at saving money for Christmas then no spend November can help you get a little extra Christmas cash to spend on a loved one or just treat yourself for a job well done.

Why do no spend November

A few reasons, all of which I love! Space, you’re going to make some. It’s going to be Christmas in a month and you’re bound to get a load more smellies! Now is the perfect time to open the aftershave you got last Christmas, use the risky eyeliner your sister got you and use up the shower gel you’re not too keen on!

At the same time, you get to make a bit of space in the bathroom and it’s probably space that you’re going to need soon enough with sale shopping and Christmas gifts!

Let’s not forget you might get something totally new for Christmas and now’s your chance to use it and hey if you like it, add it to your Christmas wish list! This really is a cool no spend month!

I’m not a fan of no spend year, I mean I gotta spend money and I don’t bulk up enough smellies to do that but still, it’s a fun thing to do. No spend November is so nifty and has so many benefits it’s unreal.

If you’re in the market to make money from home then I suggest looking at this nifty post, 6 Side Hustles To Make More Money – Earn At Home.

Little tip for parents with university students, if your child is back for Christmas and you have some bits that you really won’t use, give them to the children as a little early gift and they might just thank you for it! You’re welcome!

  1. I’m sure I could do this with our freezer. There’s plenty of stuff in their that could probably feed us for the month.

Sadly with a teen who use half a bottle of shampoo and conditioner a week we never have a build up of bathroom supplies.

    1. I’ve been thinking about doing a kitchen post to be honest, I’ve got a chest freezer and a little one attached to the fridge and we have so much we don’t even know about at the bottom! Thanks for the comment 😀

  2. This is a simple but bloody brilliant idea! I’m going to give it a go! Way too much stuff in the bathroom. Although I might not be able to extend it to the kids as they go through so much bubbles and shampoo! #DDFB
